 Local Issues

​

• Response to Coronavirus:\

  • Steve Bullock: As a Governor, Steve Bullock issued an order to wear a face mask and abide by social distancing protocols. It helped to reduce the new infection rate and death rate. In fact, Montana has the lowest new infection and death rate in the country.

  • Steve Daines: Steve passed a bill to help nursing home residents get diagnostic testing PPE (personal protection equipment). He also helped pass a paycheck protection bill to help small businesses.

• Economy and local unemployment:

  • Steve Bullock: Steve says that he saved $360 million in the Montana state budget in general funds, which later could be used for critical things such as the global pandemic and fire season by vetoing the spending bill in the last legislative session. Under his watch, the state unemployment decreased by 20,000 per week.

  • Steve Daines: Steve passed bills such as paycheck protection that helped small businesses and farmer

 

 National Issues

• Healthcare: 

  • Steve Bullock: He expanded healthcare to 90,000 more Montanans. 

  • Steve Daines: He voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

• Economy and Jobs:

  • Steve Bullock: As a governor, Steve provided tax breaks for working families and equipment tax relief for businesses. He also provided tax relief for bringing high technology jobs to Montana. He advocates the hands-on technical training for Montana youths. 

  • Steve Daines: Steve Daines opposed taxes on internet sales. He supported a bill in Congress: the budget proposed by Congress balances itself in 10 years; otherwise, the payment of the congressman should be terminated.

• Energy and climate: 

  • Steve Bullock: Steve believes in clean energy solar and wind generation of electricity. He helped pass a bill for coal mine workers to retrain them in new cleanup and reclamation jobs.

  • Steve Daines: Steve does not believe that climate change is due to human activity. He considers the climate change proposal, including incentives to clean energy businesses, as a job killer. He supports reducing water and plastic pollution.

• ​Immigration:

  • Steve Bullock: He supports the DREAMERS act. He doesn't support an open border. He wants to treat the people coming to the border humanely but does not want to help give healthcare to those entering the country illegally. He does not support building a wall on the Mexican border.

  • Steve Daines: He doesn't support the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA).  He supports the ban on immigrants from 6 Muslim countries that President Trump labeled as sponsors of terrorism.
